Cleft palate and otitis
media
Otitis media with effusion is
commonly seen in children with cleft
palate
The inappropriate insertion of the
tensor veli palatini muscle leads to
suboptimal opening of the
eustachian tube and resulting in otitis
media
Myringotomy and insertion of
grommet is performed by ENT
surgeons in the same setting as the
palatoplasty.
