Management of
lymphedema
The management of lymphedema include
both conservative and surgical options.
The aim of lymphedema treatment is to
improve quality of life, control disease
progression and reduce number of infection
episodes.
Conservative Management :
Combined decongestive therapy
Compression therapy
Manual lymphatic drainage
Exercise
Skin care
It is divided into two phases
Intensive treatment phase (usually
inpatient setting lasting 1-2 weeks)
Maintenance phase (by patient
lifelong)
Early usage of antibiotics when signs of
infection is apparent
