Management of

lymphedema

 The management of lymphedema include

both conservative and surgical options.

 The aim of lymphedema treatment is to

improve quality of life, control disease

progression and reduce number of infection

episodes.

 Conservative Management :

Combined decongestive therapy

Compression therapy

Manual lymphatic drainage

Exercise

Skin care

It is divided into two phases

Intensive treatment phase (usually

inpatient setting lasting 1-2 weeks)

Maintenance phase (by patient
lifelong)

Early usage of antibiotics when signs of

infection is apparent
