Examination and
investigations
Diagnosis of lymphedema is mainly
based on clinical history and
examination findings
Full examination including
abdominal examination (to assess for
intra-abdominal mass ) and groin
examination
USG scan to rule out deep vein
thrombosis
CT or USG abdomen to rule out intra-
abdominal pathology
Lymphangiography requires direct
cannulation of the lymphatic vessels
followed by injection of oil based
contrast materials. It is mostly
replaced by lymphoscintigraphy
now, as it is associated with damage
to the lymphatics.
