Tumour was excised with 1.5cm radial mucosal margins and underlying segment of mandible i.e.
segmental mandibulectomy. Right. The resultant mucosal defect in the floor of mouth and bony
defect (cut ends of mandibular bone marked with “x”). The tongue (T) in the oral cavity could be
seen via the neck wound. Flap reconstruction was warranted to reconstruct mucosal and bony
defects, and to separate the oral cavity from the neck to prevent salivary leakage and neck
contamination.
