A tight stenosis was identified on angio-
gram and successfully treated with a 3mm
x 20 balloon angioplasty. No stent was
placed due to the location of the stenosis at
the bifurcation.
Transplant renal artery stenosis is a known
and occasional complication of renal trans-
plants, and a main cause of graft malfunc-
tion. It can be located at the anastomosis
with the recipient iliac artery, or in this
case, in the harvested renal artery. This
location is unusual and could be a result of
clamp injury during harvest. Anastomotic
stenosis is also usually technical.
Balloon angioplasty remain the first choice
treatment of this condition as re-operation
is often difficult and poses high risks of
renal loss.
