3)     Surgical treatment







                   Laser: Pulsed dye and Nd YAG lasers can
                    be used to teat ulcerated hemangioma

                    and          remove               residual             color          from

                    involuted hemangioma







                   Surgery: Usually deferred until the child is
                    of school age and begin to experience

                    psychosocial                   consequences.                      Urgent

                    surgery is indicated during proliferative

                    phase           if    lesion          threatens             important

                    structures or functions



                       Visual obstruction


                             Lesion obstructing visual field in
                              infants can result in deprivation

                              amblyopia or anisometropia







                       Naso-laryngeal obstruction


                             Proliferating lesions in the subglottic
                              airway is potentially life-threatening.

                              It requires aggressive treatment

                              with propranolol, steroids, surgery

                              and/or laser







                       Auditory canal obstruction


                             It can result in mild to moderate
                              conductive hearing loss.
