3) Surgical treatment
Laser: Pulsed dye and Nd YAG lasers can
be used to teat ulcerated hemangioma
and remove residual color from
involuted hemangioma
Surgery: Usually deferred until the child is
of school age and begin to experience
psychosocial consequences. Urgent
surgery is indicated during proliferative
phase if lesion threatens important
structures or functions
Visual obstruction
Lesion obstructing visual field in
infants can result in deprivation
amblyopia or anisometropia
Naso-laryngeal obstruction
Proliferating lesions in the subglottic
airway is potentially life-threatening.
It requires aggressive treatment
with propranolol, steroids, surgery
and/or laser
Auditory canal obstruction
It can result in mild to moderate
conductive hearing loss.
