In the absence of extracapsular spread and SCM
invasion of surrounding structures, other
than removing levels I-V cervical lymph
nodes, we try to preserve as much normal
non-lymphatic structures as possible i.e.
modified radical neck dissection:
• Type I: CNXI preserved
IJV
• Type II: CNXI + IJV preserved
• Type III: CNXI + IJV + SCM preserved
