Dermatofibrosarcoma
protuberance (DFSP)
An uncommon tumour of dermal fibroblasts.
Intermediate malignant potential.
Locally aggressive tumour but seldom
metastasizes (<5%).
Occurs primarily in adults aged 20-50s
Distribution: majority over trunk and limbs,
followed by head and neck area
Clinical features
Usually appears as a slow-growing red solitary
cutaneous nodule
The overlying epidermis is usually normal as the
tumour is arising from the dermal layer of the skin
May mimic scar
Biopsy is warranted for diagnosis
Spindle cells arranged in an irregularly storiform,
cartwheel pattern extending from dermo-
epidermal junction into subcutaneous tissues
Stains positively for CD34
